Print research

So basically for this blog I researched real postcards that are used to promote movies. Since I will be making a postcard with a front and back, I wanted to look at examples that already exist and see how they are designed and how they promote films.

One example I found was a promotional postcard set made for the movie Poor Things. These postcards were created using images taken directly from the film’s set and were printed to promote the movie’s release.

The front of the postcards mainly focused on bold images and interesting visuals from the movie. Because the film has a very unique visual style, the postcards used colorful and detailed images to attract attention.

For my own project, this example shows how important the main image on the front of the postcard is. It should immediately show the tone of the film and make people curious about it.

Another example I looked at was collectible postcards based on the movie Jaws. These postcards use iconic artwork from the movie, especially
images of the shark and the ocean.

The design is very simple but effective. The front of the postcard shows a large dramatic image, while the back usually contains small text or space for writing. Some of these postcards are even sold as collectibles for movie fans.

What makes these postcards interesting is that they rely on one strong visual image that people immediately recognize. This makes the design very memorable.

For my project, I could use a similar idea by having the front of my postcard focus on Jeronimo, possibly showing him alone or in a cool moment that represents the story.
